Our Principles
Vanta’s mission is to secure the internet and protect consumer data. To do that, we’re building an enduring company where all Vanta’ns can do the best work of their careers, which requires us to articulate, and regularly revisit with honesty and clarity, how we work and how we make decisions - we call these our “Principles.”
We use these Principles every day in how we operate and build Vanta, and we also screen all of our hires for them . The Principles are the core tenets that guide how we work, how we hire, and how we interact with customers and partners.
As Vanta grows, we’ll update our thinking and revise these Principles, balancing “what got us here” with what’s likely to propel us further.
A Vanta’n will...
We center our customers and their needs in our work, and invest in long-term relationships with them. What and how we build is driven by our customers first and foremost, so that we’re more likely to achieve our mission of securing the internet.
All Vanta’ns bias for action, which means that they make decisions and act quickly even in the face of uncertainty, and are willing to make mistakes in the process. We know that most decisions are “two-way doors.” When we get new information, we’re comfortable with reversing decisions as long as we move quickly so we can iterate and learn.
Vanta’ns prioritize the whole of Vanta in their work, and will put their team (both the “team” of Vanta the company, and the team(s) they work with) before themselves when doing their work. We celebrate the successes of our teammates, knowing that those successes are also our own, and we presume good intent because we know that our teammates are also putting Vanta, and our customers, first.
Vanta’ns are known for biasing to action and making quick decisions - but they’re also known for making those decisions thoughtfully. Vanta’ns make decisions using frameworks, applicable to Vanta as a whole, by creating a set of decision criteria, considering alternatives and impact, and clearly articulating the process behind and support for each of their decisions. Vanta’ns also document decisions in artifacts that are accessible to their colleagues, and make sure that critical decisions follow a decision-making framework.
Vanta created and leads a dynamic, enormous market, and we operate in incredibly high stakes situations helping to keep our customers, and their customers, safe and secure. As such, Vanta’ns often find themselves in rapidly changing situations where expectations and direction are unclear, and where external parties may not practice our principles. We don’t let rough seas knock us off course - instead, we operate with resilience and grit. We see rapid change, and our ability to respond to it quickly and effectively, as an opportunity to continue redefining the industries we operate in to serve our customers.
We are building a trust management platform to allow all companies to manage and demonstrate their security continuously, and that mission requires trust. For Vanta to earn and keep that trust, each Vanta’n must hold themselves to the highest standards of ethics and accountability, and be transparent, truthful, and humble, especially when we inevitably make mistakes along the way.
